The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal has unearthed a major illegal arms trafficking racket operating out of a prominent gun store in Kolkata. In a targeted raid conducted last night, the STF team arrested all three owners of the renowned gun shop, "Narsingh Chunder & Daw," located in the city's B.B.D. Bagh area. The operation was a significant breakthrough in an ongoing investigation that has now exposed how legal firearms were being siphoned off for illegal sale.
During the raid on the licensed gun shop, a staggering total of forty-one firearms were recovered and seized. The cache included a mix of both single-barrel and double-barrel guns, for which the shop had no official record or documentation. The discovery of these undocumented weapons provided conclusive evidence of illicit activities being conducted by the shop’s owners, leading to their immediate arrest.
The investigation that led to this raid was initiated based on an earlier case registered at the Rahara Police Station. As the STF team took over the probe, they meticulously followed a clear trail that directly linked the licensed gun shop to the procurement and illegal sale of firearms. Their findings revealed a sophisticated network where licensed weapons were being funneled into the black market.
Investigators have discovered that unscrupulous individuals were illegally obtaining these firearms from the shop and then selling them at exorbitant prices on the black market. This illicit operation highlights a serious lapse in the oversight of licensed arms dealers and points to a growing issue of illegal arms trafficking within the region. The seized weapons are now a critical part of the ongoing investigation, which seeks to identify the full extent of the network.
The three individuals arrested in connection with the case have been identified as Subir Daw, Abhiir Daw, and Subrata Daw. All three are residents of the Girish Park area in Kolkata and are the partners who own and operate the gun shop. The arrests are a significant step towards dismantling the racket and holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
